“People are taking the piss out of you everyday. They butt into your life, take a cheap shot at you and then disappear. They leer at you from tall buildings and make you feel small. They make flippant comments from buses that imply you’re not sexy enough and that all the fun is happening somewhere else. They are on TV making your girlfriend feel inadequate. They have access to the most sophisticated technology the world has ever seen and they bully you with it. They are “The Advertisers” and they are laughing at you.
You, however, are forbidden to touch them. Trademarks, intellectual property rights and copyright law mean advertisers can say what they like wherever they like with total impunity.
Fuck that. Any advert in a public space that gives you no choice whether you see it or not is yours. It’s yours to take, re-arrange and re-use. You can do whatever you like with it. Asking for permission is like asking to keep a rock someone just threw at your head.
You owe the companies nothing. Less than nothing, you especially don’t owe them any courtesy. They owe you. They have re-arranged the world to put themselves in front of you. They never asked for your permission, don’t even start asking for theirs.”

Without a doubt since the arrival of bassist Brian Robinson, A Wilhelm Scream has only continued to shatter the limits of their skills and shred faces with their blistering fret work. Because of him, their 2007 album Career Suicide was a meteoric landmark in melodic punk rock: defiantly proving that it is every bit as embittered, raucous, and breakneck as a punk record should be. Newcomer Robinson proved his efficacy by serving out high octane bass licks that often times challenged guitarists Trevor Reiley and Mike Supina to keep up. Their follow-up (the eponymous, A Wilhelm Scream EP) is a very in your face bombardment of gang vocals, triple tapping guitar harmonies, and the usual cynicism of Reiley’s lyrics delivered so histrionically by Nuno Pereira. While I love the albums without Robinson (Ruiner and Mute Print), they aren’t even comparable to the material they’re releasing these days.
While their self titled EP was a phenomenal record, I’ve been waiting eagerly for a proper full length follow-up to Career Suicide, knowing damn well that it will top everything else that they’ve done. If you’re as eager as I am, it will get you revved up to know that there is an album coming to us soon.
In a recent interview with Brian Lawrence, Nuno revealed that Wilhelm are in the end stages of production with their next full length and he isn’t shy about letting it be known how amped he is to release it:
“Well, let me just start by saying that I, maybe more than anyone, can’t fucking wait to release this record. The actual music/vocals are all done. From my understanding we’re just waiting to get the record mixed and mastered at the Blasting Room, and then we’ll be at the mercy of artwork/record label business. So, short answer..it’s done when it’s done.”
There’s no denying that Wilhelm are in their prime right now. Their past two records have only proved how no holds barred they can be and if they’re any indication of what the band can achieve, I can not wait to see how they outdo themselves next.
